Beitbridge Rural District is situated in the southern tip of Matabeleland South Province, bordering South Africa to the south and Botswana to the west. The total area coverage of this district is approximately 12 697 square kilometres with a population of 94 001 people as at the last census in 2022, that makes up 23 197 households. Beitbridge district is one of the driest areas in Zimbabwe falling under agro-ecological Region V. The characteristics of this agro-ecological region include, very high temperatures, low and erratic rainfall patterns in which agricultural production is adversely affected resulting in food-insecure communities. Beitbridge district is endowed as a significant producer of livestock in the country which helps to up lift community livelihoods and revenue streams for the local authority. There are two local planning authorities in Beitbridge District, namely Beitbridge Municipality and Beitbridge Rural District Council whose mandate is to provide quality services and best community livelihoods for its people. It is not worthy that this council seeks to monitor the implementation of development plans, targets, gaps and possible interventions along with development partners.
